Leporello is a condensed story of strong characters, joined together in an intimate moment, standing tall as a force to be reckoned with. Each figure carries out a conflict and inherits an ambivalence, as their titles suggest: Criminal/ Avenger; Witch/Wizard; Murderer/Victim; Trickster/Heroine; Terrorist/Freedom Fighter; Sensitive Painter/Philosopher; Prude/Abusee; Revolutionary/Partisan; Vagabond/Homeless. The work bears the combined wisdom of many generations, with each panel telling the story of courage, survival, and power. The strength of these characters is underlined by the brushstrokes and colors that Ursula Reuter Christiansen energetically applies to the nine acrylic panels. Both theme and execution are sensual displays of the artist’s inner being.
Ursula Reuter Christiansen (born 1943 in Trier, Germany) is an artist whose work oscillates between symbolism and mythology, desire and hatred, beauty and the abyss. The Danish-German artist’s upbringing awakened her natural sense of feminism: her work is a clear ode to the strength and power of women. Reuter Christiansen lives and works in Møn, Denmark.
